As owner and operator of Katie Cakes Custom Bakes, I strive to always is to create a special, custom cake specifically for each person. But sometimes with a critically ill child, a cake can be a way for the family to temporarily escape from worries and to create special memories during a difficult time. Long after the cake is gone, those sweet memories will remain. These are the times when a cake is so much more than just a cake.

I've been lucky enough to create 3 cakes since joining icing smiles in July 2016.

Peyton was my first Icing Smiles cake and has been battling Muscular Dystrophy. I made a Barbie cake for her 6th birthday and mom brought her to pick up the cake. She was just the nicest little girl so thanks to mom we still keep in touch on Facebook :)

Christopher was one of my favorite cakes to make. He was turning 2 and his sibling has been battling a lung and heart conditionan. His family requested a Winnie the Pooh Cake! This was a Dream Cake (cakes that are sculpted, carved, or tiered or that have another type of wow factor) and a child is entitled to just one dream cake from Icing Smiles in a lifetime. I created a 2 tiered cake with a 3D "Hunny" pot and a hand drawn scene of all the famous characters. (You can see a 360 video on my facebook page)

My most recent donation was for Jack. He was celebrating his 5th birthday and battling Leukemia. They call Jack "Boomer," because through it all he has shown such resilience, courage and the amazing will to live. Despite his battle with Leukemia, the excitement on Jacks face when he saw his cake was absolutely priceless. You can also donate to Boomers GoFundMe page.

Just a small donation will go a long way to helping me meet my goal for Icing Smiles.
